The Hiding Kite: a Story about a Family Storm is a picture book born from personal experience, employing the Milk Carton Drypoint to express the nuanced challenges associated with domestic violence and mental health. I envision this book as a catalyst for conversations about family storms, fostering understanding, empathy, and resilience among its readerships.
Sometimes the dark cloud would come into my home, and Daddy would chase after Mummy.
“Mummy, let’s play hide-and-seek. Now go and hide, don’t let Daddy catch you.” I whisper. “I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.” she says.
Mummy, run away! I will find you.
The dark cloud is gone, and Daddy’s hand starts to feel warm again. But I don’t know where Mummy would hide.
Maybe she’s hiding in the clouds and flying with my kite. She went so far away, I haven’t seen her for a long time. Has she forgotten me?
